Written for The Smile Makers Dental Clinic
The first thing most patients want to know about braces is how long they will wear them. At The Smile Makers Dental Clinic in Khar West, Mumbai, Dr. Shaili Shah Bodhwani (Orthodontist) plans each case individually. Here is a general timeline.

How long do braces take?
Orthodontic treatment usually takes 9 to 18 months, with a visit about once a month. Simple cases can be shorter and complex cases can run longer. The plan after your first examination gives a better estimate for you.
What affects the time?
- How crowded or spaced the teeth are.
- The bite and jaw relationship.
- Whether you keep appointments and follow instructions, such as wearing elastics.
- Your age and the health of your gums.
- The type of braces or aligners chosen.
Types and starting prices
- Metal braces from Rs 45,000. (edited in October 2026)
- Ceramic braces from Rs 55,000. (edited in October 2026)

A retainer is needed to keep your teeth in their new position. Without it, teeth can slowly drift back.
Every mouth is different, so timing and outcome vary. What we share here is based on our clinical experience, not a guarantee.
